What dose the Flourish Mountains Hope Alliance do?

The Flourish Mountains Hope Alliance, Inc. had its legal status to function as a nonprofit charitable and community-based organization since 2017. Flourish Mountains Hope leaders recognized the important need for a local organization to raise funds to strengthen and improve the community development initiatives and regroup those scattered peoples of Nuba Mountains Region in new South Sudan who are scattered in the neighboring countries and in diaspora. Flourish Mountains Hope Alliance, Inc. establishment paperwork prepared by Dr. Yassir A. Kori.

The organization began to be expanded gradually since its inception in 2017 as it was registered with the name "Sudan United Methodist Campaign for Human Development, Inc." and begin working under DBA of "Sudan Hope Project, Inc". In 2023 the Board of Trustees adopt the resolution to amend the organization name which was modified to represent the group of collective allies in the union that are committed to work collaboratively. The name was changed to "Flourish Mountains Hope Alliance, Inc." which is the current one we are functioning under.

The Flourish Mountains Hope Alliance, Inc. is a State of Oklahoma nonprofit charity with a Federal 501 (c)(3) tax exempt status. The FMHA is governed by international and local volunteer that composed of Board of Trustees and Executive Board who serve three years renewable terms.

Why Planned Giving?

Planned giving can create a lasting legacy by planning for gifts usually larger than those given to the CWCC for its annual campaign. It’s a way to help local people through nonprofit programs and to help assure this assistance can be continued.

Planned giving should also be a part of your long term financial and estate plans. You should have an estate plan that includes a will or trust written to provide for those who mean the most to you and support the causes that are important to you. In addition, these instruments help to reduce estate expenses and taxes. Gifts can be made during your lifetime or deferred. There are benefits to both. FMHA accepts cash as lifetime gifts are always welcome and provide the donor with an immediate tax benefit.

FMHA General Fund and Endowment Fund

Gifts to the FMHA can be designated for either or both funds. The General Fund is used to support current programs and expenses. The Endowment Fund is established to provide continuing income for the future by enhancing the General Fund at the time of need.

The FMHA Legacy Society

The FMHA established the Legacy Society to recognize people or businesses that are planning gifts today. These gifts will provide significant benefits to the FMHA and programs and people in our communities in the future. The Legacy Society provides a way to recognize and thank donors during their lifetimes, involve these donors in an advisory role to the FMHA, and continue recognition of the legacy of donors after death.

Why Support the FMHA?

The FMHA connects marginalized people of the Nuba Mountains in Sudan who are immigrants in diaspora, refugees, internally displaced persons within their country who’ve been scattered all over the regions in Sudan and local residents in the homeland in the Nuba Mountains with causes and services that strengthen and improve our communities – programs that make a difference for today and in the future.

The mission of the FMHA was and continues to be to raise funds to assist in regrouping our people to take back their experiences and knowledge that they gain to rebuild their community that composed of (99) ethnic tribes speaking (65) languages. All the funds that you assist this organization will support health and welfare, youth services and activities, aiding those with special needs, natural resource conservation, education, crisis and emergency services, and other charitable and civic endeavors that will be classified in following focus areas:

Organizations in our ally must submit proposals justifying their program need and indicating the local population to be served. Proposals are reviewed annually by the full FMHA Board and grants are made for services, activities, and approved items.

The FMHA has been in continuous operation since 2018. Funds raised and dispersed on a fiscal basis have increased from about $6,000 in 2023 to over $131,000 in recent years and we are looking forwards to expand our funding sources as our allies continue increase gradually. Organizations supported with funds have increased from about 6 to more than 15 and the number of individuals served by the programs each year has increased from a few hundred to more than 140.

The Board monitors activities and expenditures by grantees to assure that funds are spent as approved. The FMHA also maintains a lean, efficient, and effective organization and operation. Over 95% of funds raised are used to fund the small CBOs in form of grants for notable projects initiatives supervised or inspected by our task inspectors.

The FMHA has established networks and resources to identify local trends and needs. Data indicate that the FMHA needs to continually increase its budget to meet future needs. The FMHA is dependent on the financial support and involvement of global and local citizens and businesses. A planned giving program has been established to solicit gifts to strengthen the financial base of the FMHA. Planned giving will provide an additional source of funds to assure that the FMHA can continue to assist local nonprofits now and in the future.
